Kluender- Art 8

Art 8 has spent the past few blocks learning about charcoal. Today, they drew from life using bottles, fruits and vegetables.

I added a light to each still life so that students could easily see the lights and shadows on the objects and on the table.

We will be adding paint to accent the charcoal drawings later.

Kluender- Welcome, New Second Semester Students!

Welcome to the second semester!

On our first block, we went over the course syllabus and important class info.

We discussed the course fee & suggested materials, grading practices, electronic device usage, and class expectations.

The signed syllabus, fee, and materials are due by A day- Monday, Feb. 13, B day- Tuesday, Feb. 14

What are we doing now?

Art 7/8:
Today, Art 7/8 students began their daily journals and we brainstormed different careers an artist may have. We also began our first art project.  We discussed John J. Audubon, a French-American orinthologist and painter. We talked about his art career, not only as a painter, but his contribution to the scientific community for documenting the birds of North America. Students began to sketch out birds using reference photos. Next block, we will break the birds up using contour lines and shapes and add foliage to balance out the positive and negative space.

Computer Art 7/8:
Today, CA 7/8 students began their daily journals and we brainstormed ideas for our power word. A power word is a word that holds special meaning, makes and impact, or represents something about you. After choosing a personal power word, students used a variety of fonts to create their power word in bubble letters on a triangle template that will be used to create a kaleidoscope. Next block, we will be tracing our template onto our paper and learning how to flip and trace to make the kaleidoscope design.

Stay tuned for examples of work in progress next week.....

Kluender- Exam Week

Hello everyone!

I apologize for not posting lately! We had winter break, and then our snow storm, and then....I broke my ankle! It's been a little chaotic!

But, we're halfway through exam week and looking forward to beginning our second semester classes!

For exam block, Art 7/8 and Computer Art 7/8 classes are completing a drawing assessment using a grid, candy, and colored pencils. Come prepared to show off all those wonderful skills we've learned throughout the semester.

Art 8's exam block will be a still life drawing assessment. We did this on day one of the semester and we will look at the two drawings and compare them. Art 8 students will identify areas that they think have shown growth and areas that still have room for improvement based on this comparison.
