Kluender and Didlake

Please help us welcome our student teacher visiting from VCU, Mrs. Didlake! She has begun to take over the ARt 78 classes with a Dia De Los Muertos lesson. Today, students were introduced to this holiday and drew skulls in class.

Kluender Art 8

Art 8 has been working on a mini still life project. We drew from still life options set up in the Art Studio. Students were encouraged to design a unique drawing composition by drawing big and going off the page, adding overlapping and one or more horizon lines to show depth, and adding value (shading) in their chosen material. They could choose from pencil, charcoal pencils, colored pencil, or pen & ink for their drawings.

Then, they were asked to add a second material to accent their drawing. Some chose tempera or watercolor paint, some chose magazine mosaic or colored pencil. On this day, some chose to work out in the courtyard since the weather was so nice.

Kluender Art 78

We are in various stages of progress in Art 78. Students for the most part have finished shading and are working on their magazine mosaic backgrounds.
Once the base color mosaic is complete, they will cut letters "ransom style" to quote their portrait. What a great way to have your artwork look great AND have something to say!

KLuender, ARt 8

Finally! I've been wanting to post a picture from my 8th graders working on their ceramics project for a while now, but clay time in the studio is always so busy! Thanks to my students for helping me remember to snap a few pics in class today :)

My Art 8 students began with two pinch pots and my how their projects have grown from that! They are creating a portrait bust. We have been discussing narrative in artwork and they will create a narrative to go with their final product once painted.

KLuender Art 78

Shading, shading, shading! My Art 78 students are busy shading their inspirational celebrities with pencil. Once done, they will use magazines to add a mosaic background.

Kluender Art 78

Art 78 is beginning to work on a grid drawing of a person who inspires them.

We will focus on VALUE in grayscale when the drawings are complete.
