Kluender- A3 Art 7/8

We learned all about oil pastels today! Students have created enlarged animal eye drawings using chalk on colored paper. Then, they began using the oil pastel techniques to add color.

We learned about mixing and blending and adding value and texture using scumbling, hatching, crosshatching, and stippling.

Kluender- A3- Art 7/8

Art 7/8 A3 block is making awesome progress on their can drawings! Great job, guys! Way to mix and blend those Prismas :)

Kluender- Art 7/8 B2

Art 7/8 B2 block took a break from their self-portraits to begin glazing their ceramic pieces.

I fired the kiln to about 1800 degrees to chemically change the clay to a ceramic piece. This stage of clay is called BISQUEWARE. Then, we were ready to add color!

First, we added a black underglaze wash to the piece and used a sponge to remove the excess glaze from the surface, leaving the black in the cracks. This really brought out all of our texture and accentuated those lines.

Next block, we will begin to layer colored underglazes on top. We will finish it off with a coat of clear glaze to make it shine.

Don't worry if you have a broken piece....some pieces can be fused back on with glaze....and others can be glued on after the firing is complete.

Some students included hangers, while others opted to use plate hangers to display their pieces.

Kluender- Art 7/8- A3

A3 block has begun drawing a crushed can. We discussed tips on getting the contour shapes, lettering, and images in proportion.

Then, we discussed pros and cons of using Prismacolor colored pencils. We practiced using them to create a value scale of hue, tints, and shades.

We talked about highlights and shadows and how to use your eyes to OBSERVE each crinkle and fold as an individual shape that needed attention when shading.

Students are using Prismas to add color to their drawings.

Kluender- A day Art 78 classes

A day Art 7/8 students are finishing up their pencil self-portraits with magazine mosaic backgrounds....and they are beautiful!

We practiced using a grid as a drawing tool. Most students agreed that the grid was a big help in getting the drawing in proportion.

We used #2 pencil to add value to the artwork.

Then, we added a mosaic background using bits from magazines and mod podge.

Check out some student work here:
