Kluender- Art 7/8

Art 7/8 students have turned in their Audubon inspired bird drawings.

Here are some student examples of the finished product. Great job, guys!

Kluender- Art 8

Art 8 just finished up a charcoal unit. We have been learning about creating VALUE in many different materials this year. We have also been focusing on improving our OBSERVATIONAL DRAWING SKILL in preparation for high school.

Art 8 students drew from life on three different occasions in class using black and white charcoal on different papers.

Then, students were asked to complete one of the three drawings for a final grade. They got to personalize their artwork and be more creative by adding other materials.

Students could choose to add tempera, acrylic, or watercolor paint. Some chose to add newspaper or magazine mosaic to the background. Some students simply chose to complete their artworks in charcoal.

I think the variety is wonderful!

Kluender Art 7/8

Art 7/8 students have been learning how to use a grid to help them draw an image. Students are using photos of themselves as subject matter for their artwork.

Last block, we practiced some techniques with drawing using a grid using small photos of celebrities.

Today, we used a ruler to create a 1 inch grid over our photos and on our drawing paper.

Students began their drawings using the gridlines as guides to help them.

They got a great start! They will be so proud of how well they can draw themselves using the grid. We did a "before" portrait that we will compare after the project is complete, so they can see their growth.

Kluender- Computer Art 7/8

Computer Art 7/8 is finishing up our first big round of projects! They have been working hard to finish these up by the due dates next week.

Students used Adobe Photoshop to create a DIGITAL KALEIDOSCOPE from a photo. They edited the original image using image adjustments and filters, then flipped it four times. After printing it twice, they were attached to make a larger kaleidoscope design.

Here are some student examples:

Students are also finishing up their Power Word Kaleidoscopes. These are large studio projects that used a word as inspiration. Can you spot the words that students used in these artworks?

Art 8 is beginning their ceramics project! Students made two PINCH POTS. They used the SCORE, SLIP and SEAL method to attach them to create a hollow egg to use as a head shape.

Next, students are adding facial features. This can be human, animal, or hybrid. We have discussed NARRATIVE in artwork and students will be creating a narrative for their finished ceramic piece. They have been encouraged to be creative and let a story unfold as they are building.

I didn't get too many action shots today.... keeping my hands clean while helping students is tough! Keep up the good work, Art 8!
