Youth Art Month Chalk Art!

Mrs. Kluender and Mrs. Bradley's A3 classes worked outside today to do some amazing artist-inspired portraits on the sidewalk near the bus loop!

Students selected numbers to assign them to one of 17 groups. Each group had an portrait  to work from. They used colored chalk to recreate the images onto large sectioned off areas around the bus loop.

Some students really enjoyed getting messy! Students recognized that not all portraits are made up of "skin tones", but that some artists used bright, bold, or unrealistic color to show emotion.

Students had to work together with other students and grade levels to complete the assignment. We saw a lot of great teamwork out there!

Students labeled each drawing with the artist's name that their drawing was inspired by. Come check them out and learn a little about an artist before the rain washes them away!!!

We thank you for your support of our Fine Arts Department, not only during March for Youth Art Month, but for all you do to support our young artists all yearlong!\

Kluender- Art 8

Art 8 should complete building their clay busts by the end of the week!
After allowing them to dry completely, I will fire them in the kiln. Then, we will discuss adding color and finishing touches to our creations!

Students are working on creating a NARRATIVE for their ceramics piece. This should be at least 10 sentences to accompany their creation. This can be done on the computers I have in class or done at home.

Next week, we will begin another project while we are waiting for our ceramics pieces to dry and be fired.

Kluender- Computer Art 7/8

Computer Art students are creating a grid drawing based on a zoomed in package. Students chose a candy or snack package and used Photoshop to crop it to an 8 inch square and zoom in on part of it. This was printed out and gridded into 2inch boxes.

Then, students gridded a 16x16 inch paper into 4 inch boxes. We learned how to use a grid to help us draw something in proportion.

After drawing, the student are using a COLOR CHECKLIST to add color to their artworks. (See below). Students are learning all about different color families and vocabulary, like monochromatic, analogous, complementary, neutrals....

Students already learned basic shading skills, so these should be put into practice on this project.

SPIRIT WEEK!

Dress out and support the SJMS Art Department!
